Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s Relationship: A Complete Timeline

What started out as a whirlwind romance soon morphed into full-fledged love. If you’ll recall, in July 2018, People magazine reported that Jonas Brothers musician Nick Jonas and Quantico actor Priyanka Chopra were engaged after just two months of dating. This was confirmed a few weeks later by the couple, and by December of that year they were married. Five years later, they’re happier than ever.

Let’s look back at their love story, starting with when they brought the fire emoji to life at the 2017 Met Gala:

2016: Though we have no idea at the time, Nick Jonas slides into Pri's DMs. Priyanka Chopra later revealed that at the time, she was in a not-great relationship, but didn't want to give Nick a shot because of their age difference.

“I was in a tumultuous relationship at that time,” Chopra told Dax Shepard. “This is ’16. We had common friends who didn’t want me to be in my relationship and were like, ‘Oh, he’s single too.’ He’s really not with that girl, but he is. It was complicated on both our ends.”

“I was also like 35, Nick was 25,” she continued. “I really put a stop to it in a way because I judged the book by the cover. I said, ‘I wanna settle down. I have been there and done the fun dating things.’ I was, like, ready to get serious.” They continued texting until a week before the 2017 Met Gala red carpet in New York City, where they met IRL for the first time…

May 2017: Chopra and Jonas attend the 2017 Met Gala together as guests of Ralph Lauren and set off a firestorm of rumors. They each played it coy when asked about their relationship in interviews following the event. “Yeah, we were on the same table and we already know each other,” Chopra told Jimmy Kimmel. “So he was like, ‘Hey, you wanna go [to the Met Gala] together?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, okay, let’s go together.’ It ended up working out.” Jonas doubled down on this, telling a radio station, “I’m single. She and I knew each other from before.”

May 2018: Fast-forward to one year later—Memorial Day Weekend—and the chatter intensifies again. Us Weekly publishes a report claiming the former Bollywood star and Jonas are seeing each other. “It’s a good match and they are both interested in each other,” a source said.

Chopra and Jonas’s activities over Memorial Day weekend seemed to corroborate this. They went on a total of three dates together: to a Beauty and the Beast Live show at the Hollywood Bowl Friday, a Los Angeles Dodgers game on Saturday, and a boat outing alongside Wilmer Valderrama, Glen Powell, and Chord Overstreet.

Keep in mind during all of this, Chopra and Jonas are consistently favoriting photos they uploaded to Instagram:

Early June 2018: Chopra and Jonas pick up their Instagram flirtation. Jonas comments, “That smile,” with a heart emoji on a photo of Chopra laughing with her friends at In-N-Out Burger. Meanwhile, Chopra keeps liking Jonas’s pics.

June 11: Jonas and Chopra attend a Jonas cousin’s wedding in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Daily Mail has photos of them together at the shindig; they were also photographed at JFK airport in Queens, New York, three days before, presumably en route.

June 22–23: The couple jets off to India together, where Jonas reportedly meets Chopra’s mom. On this trip they also attend the preengagement party of Reakash Ambani and his fiancée, Shloka Mehta, in Mumbai.

July 1: Chopra attends Jonas’s concert at the VillaMix Festival in Brazil. “Him 😍,” she captioned a video of Jonas performing at the show, which she uploaded to Instagram Stories.

July 7: Reports surface that the former Miss World winner and Jonas have matching gold Cartier rings—that look a lot like wedding bands.

July 16: Jonas and Chopra go on a double date with Joe Jonas and his then fiancée (now wife), Game of Thrones actor Sophie Turner. Kevin Jonas also attends.

July 17: The couple goes out in London for Chopra’s birthday, reportedly grabbing a bite at Chiltern Firehouse. They both looked chic, as always.

July 27: People reports that Chopra and Jonas are engaged after two months of dating. What’s more, Jonas reportedly shut down an entire Tiffany store just to buy Chopra a ring. That’s very Sweet Home Alabama, am I right? Later, they'll reveal photos from the night they got engaged, which culminated with a romantic seaside dinner.

August 2018: Chopra and Jonas share photos from their engagement party, thus confirming said engagement. On social media, Chopra reveals she’s partnered with Amazon on a wedding registry wish list; in turn, the company makes a $100,000 donation to UNICEF on the Indian actor’s behalf.

December 2018: The couple ties the knot in Jodhpur, India, with two ceremonies: a traditional Hindu one and a Western one. Photos of their two nuptials are shared far and wide across the internet—and they look so, so in love.

January 2019: A honeymoon for the ages.

February 2019: The newlyweds display some playful PDA on the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party red carpet.

July 2019: Pasta-making date night in Italy, anyone? Since Chopra Jonas has called out the fact that her husband can’t cook, this seems like the perfect no-fail family recipe.

September 2019: Nick turns 27, and his wife throws him an epic birthday bash, renting out an entire NFL stadium. “My beautiful wife surprised me with a touch football game with some of my closest friends and family on the one and only Soldier Field in Chicago (!!!) followed by a few hours of Topgolf, and then a party where pizza, tequila, cake, and cigars were involved,” Jonas wrote about the fête. I only have one question: What’s a Topgolf?

November 2019: The pair celebrate their almost-one-year-married anniversary with something slightly better than paper: a puppy! “Pri came home with the absolute best surprise this morning. Please meet our new pup @ginothegerman I haven’t stopped smiling since I woke up this morning and finally realized what was going on. Thank you @priyankachopra ❤️ 🐕,” the singer wrote online.

January 2020: The couple that presents together stays together. That’s what people say in LA, right? The pair co-presented at the Golden Globes. She in a pink off-the-shoulder Cristina Ottaviano gown and a serious diamond necklace; he in tuxedo with a Western twist. On hand to hand out the award for best TV Series, musical or comedy, Chopra Jonas and Jonas did their own version of awards show banter. “Wow, you look amazing tonight, baby,” Jonas said. “I’m so glad we could get out of the house to be at this beautiful party.” To which Chopra Jonas replied, “Yeah, well, nice try, Nick, but this does not count as date night. Clearly.” Jonas conceded the point before they announced the nominees. (Fleabag won—hooray!)

Also in January, the Jonas Brothers released the music video for their song “What a Man Gotta Do”—featuring each of the brothers’ real live wives as their costars. Priyanka and Nick recreate a scene from Risky Business in their portion of the video.

May 2020: They celebrate the two-year anniversary of their first date by posting a never-before-seen photo of the outing:

July 2020: To celebrate Priyanka’s turning 38, Nick writes her an absolutely epic love letter. “I could stare into your eyes forever,” he wrote in the caption of an Instagram post. “I love you baby. You are the most thoughtful, caring and wonderful person I have ever met. I am so grateful we found one another. Happy birthday beautiful.” Okay, maybe it’s more of a note than a letter, but still!

August 2020: Nick and Priyanka introduce the newest addition to their family—a rescue pup named Panda. “Welcome to the family Panda! Panda is a Husky Australian Shepard mix rescue and we’re already in love,” the singer wrote on Instagram.

“Our new family portrait! Welcome to the family, Panda! We adopted this little rescue (soon he won’t be so little) just a few weeks ago,” Chopra Jonas captioned her post.

October 2020: After months of quarantining with her husband, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is back to work. While filming a movie in Europe, the actor appeared (virtually) on the Today show on October 23. During the interview, she was asked what she learned about her husband while they were stuck at home. 

“That I still like him after spending so much time with him,” the Quantico star responded with a laugh. “He’s great, and we would have never had as much time with each other as we got during this quarantine. It only took a global pandemic for us to align our schedules together. We moved into our new house. We had time to do that together and incubate, which was great.” 

November 2021: The JoBros get roasted on Netflix, and Chopra Jonas drops a pretty solid burn about the couple’s 10-year age difference: “There are many ’90s pop culture references he doesn’t understand, and I have to explain them to him. He teaches me how to use TikTok, for example, and I teach him what a successful acting career looks like.” OUCH.

January 2022: Surprise! The couple welcome a daughter, Malti Marie, via surrogate. Following a stay in the NICU, their baby girl comes home to delighted parents.

Jonas will reflect later, “After 100 plus days in the NICU, our little girl is finally home. Every family’s journey is unique and requires a certain level of faith, and while ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is. We are overjoyed that our little girl is finally home, and just want to thank every Doctor, nurse and specialist at Rady Children’s La Jolla and Cedar Sinai, Los Angeles, who were there selflessly every step of the way. Our next chapter begins now, and our baby is truly a badass. Let’s get it M! Mommy and Daddy love you.”

Chopra Jonas remembered, “[Nick] just held me by my shoulders, and I said, ‘Just tell me what to do, because I don’t know what to do. And he’s like, ‘Just get into the car with me.’ And we drove to the hospital.” She revealed in an interview that since that day, Malti Marie has “never been without” at least one of her celeb parents.

October 2022: Baby’s first Diwali. The family of three celebrates this major Hindu holiday together.

January 2023: MM is one! In an interview the pop star revealed that he and his wife threw one-year-old daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas a big birthday party in honor of this important milestone. “We had to celebrate,” he said. “She went through a pretty wild journey in the early part of her life, so we had to celebrate in style. She’s one. She’s beautiful. It’s amazing. The best.”

Also in January, Priyanka Chopra Jonas lands a Vogue UK cover—and so does Malti Marie.

May 2023: While promoting Love Again, her first big romantic comedy since 2019’s Isn’t It Romantic, Chopra Jonas reveals that husband Nick Jonas actually has a small cameo in the film.

“I was very excited about the fact that Nick agreed to do this, because the scene was written as you saw it,” the Citadel actor told Entertainment Weekly. “They were going to cast a random actor who would’ve eventually had to lick my face during COVID, which meant that he had to quarantine for 14 days and sit in a hotel room just waiting to lick my face. It was just awful.”

Also in May, Jonas shared a sweet Mother’s Day tribute to Chopra Jonas. “Happy Mother’s Day my love,” he wrote alongside a photo of his wife and baby daughter. “You are an incredible mother. You light up me and MM’s world every day.” Awww.
